Simbuono Giudice. “Canzone. He finds that Love has beguiled him, but will trust in his Lady.”

Simbuono Giudice was a dugento poet about whom we know virtually nothing, as is the case with a number of DGR's poets. DGR's source was either the text in Poeti del primo secolo (II. 82-84) or in the Raccolta di Rime Antiche Toscane (I. 533-535). Neither the translation nor the Italian original is an especially interesting poem.

Probably the late 1840s.

The translation was first published in 1861 in The Early Italian Poets; it was reprinted in 1874 in Dante and his Circle.
