Scholarly Commentary

Introduction

DGR supplies no critical or biographical notes for this minor poet, other than a conjectural date of 1220 as the approximate period of his work. Modern scholarship has pursued the issue in some depth and the poet is now identified as Inghilfredi of Lucca. His birth and death dates are not known but he flourished at the mid-thirteenth-century and his works were circulating beyond Sicily after 1250. DGR's source text is Poeti del primo secolo (I. 144-146).

See DGR's translation for further commentary.
