Introduction
Two versions of this early sonnet come down to us: one first printed by WMR and collected in his 1911 collected edition; the other a manuscript in the Duke University Library among the eighteen bouts rimés sonnets of the group of some forty-four that WMR and DGR wrote together as an exercise in verse-making.
Textual History: Revision
The variances between the two surviving texts indicate that an intermediate set of revisions must have been made by DGR.
