Introduction
This draft of DGR's translation was begun in pencil (the first five lines) and then finished in ink.
The manuscript is among a cache of materials originally in the possession of WMR and after that of John Robert Wahl. They finally passed into the library of the South African National Gallery.
Textual History: Composition
The composition date is almost certainly 1848—in any case, before 1850.
