DGR's 1861 book of translations was divided into two large sections, of which this was the second. The first part was headed “Poets Chiefly Before Dante”. When he came to revise and reprint the book in 1874, he reversed the order of the two sections and changed the title of the book from The Early Italian
Poets to Dante and his Circle.
