Scholarly Commentary
Introduction
This is one of two MS copies of the sonnet in the Troxell Collection; both are texts made around September 1869, but although the other has the physical appearance of the more primitive document, it is in fact subsequent to this text. Both of these texts postdate the manuscript in the Ashley Library.

This is one of the texts on which DGR executed the revisions he was making for the first printing of the sonnet in the First Trial Book in September 1869.
