Scholarly Commentary

Introduction

These three jingoistic sonnets were first printed by WMR in his 1895 Family Letters. DGR set them to his brother in his letter of 18 October 1849, sent from Paris during his trip to the continent with Holman Hunt. WMR later gathered the set of verses written during the trip into an integral sequence.

Printing History

The sonnets were first collected in WMR's 1911 edition.
