Ladies, that have intelligence in Love” and “BALLATA. He perceives that his highest Love is gone from him” ). DGR also placed an epigraph from Bonaggiunta's “La mia amorosa mente ” at the head of “Hand and Soul” .

DGR's source text is the <hi rend="i">Raccolta di rime antiche toscane</hi> (I. 344-345). The translation follows the complex rhyme scheme of the original exactly.
