Scholarly Commentary

Introduction

First published in 1895 in WMR's Family Letters II. 40, they are the only surviving lines—the final stanza, in fact—of a burlesque poem in 24 stanzas composed by DGR and Hunt together. DGR mentions it in his letter to his brother of 20 August 1848.

Printing History

First published in 1895 by WMR in Family Letters, the lines were then collected in his edition of 1911.
