Scholarly Commentary

Introduction

WMR first published this poem as a separate work in his 1886 collected edition of DGR's works under the title “Thomae Fides”. In fact, DGR wrote the poem as an addition to “The Doom of the Sirens”.

Textual History: Composition

Two manuscripts survive: a corrected draft pasted inside the front cover of a copy of the 1900 edition of Lenore, and the fair copy written into DGR's manuscript of “The Doom of the Sirens”.

Printing History

First published by WMR in his collected edition of 1886 and collected thereafter. WMR does not indicate the relation of the poem to “The Doom of the Sirens”.
