Introduction

This is one of two limericks that DGR directed at his friend Val Prinsep, who was probably present when DGR composed them at one or another of DGR's famous dinner parties at Cheyne Walk. This one, but not the other, was copied in Alice's Ramsden's commonplace book.

A general commentary on DGR's limericks and their context is available.
