General Description

Date: 1869?

Scholarly Commentary

The limerick is of course directed at Edward Burne-Jones and references in passing Burne-Jones's wife Georgiana. DGR wrote asecond limerick directed at his good friend. The two were copied out in slightly variant forms in the commonplace book of Alice Ramsden, the good friend of the Burne-Jones's daughter Margaret.

A general commentary on DGR's limericks and their context is available.
