In the latter it is titled “Love's Antiphony”.

Textual History: Composition

Four holograph manuscripts of the sonnet come down to us. The earliest is the corrected draft gathered in the Troxell composite “House of Life” sequence, where its initial title, “The Symphony”, is cancelled. From this derives the fair copy in the “Love and Loss” triptych and the fair copy gathered into the “Kelmscott Love Sonnets” sequence. In these manuscripts the poem is titled “Love's Antiphony”. The copy in the Fitzwilliam composite “House of Life” sequence is in the hand of May Morris and descends from DGR's fair copy now in the Bancroft Museum library. One of the latter was printer's copy for the 1881 publication.
