Scholarly Commentary
Introduction
This manuscript resides in the Duke University Library, along with a text of its companion sonnet, “Disio”. Both texts were originally in a black bordered envelope, which is also in the library. A note by DGR on the back of the envelope reads: “Italian Sonnet in [?] to one a letter/ of mine! in Italian”. On the front of the envelope is a note by WMR with a conjecture as to dating: “?65 Italian Sonnets/ of Gabriel's”.
