                    <p>In this essay, Dixon continues his discussion of the Crimean war begun the
                        previous month. Russia agreed to terms of peace at the end of January, and
                        Dixon, who in the <xref doc="a.Dixon002.raw">earlier essay</xref> had
                        championed England as the nation &#8220;employed by Providence as the
                        means of overthrowing whatever power has become predominant in
                        Europe&#8221; (69), now laments the peace treaty, on the grounds that
                        England and France should force Russian borders back even further.</p>
