F. Tupper. It is titled in general <title level="wrk">“<xref doc="a.jtupper004.raw">Papers of The M. S. Society</xref>”. The first three parts were published in <hi rend="i">The Germ</hi> no. 3 and the other two in no. 4. John Tupper, who wrote parts 1, 4, and 5, read all or part of it to a gathering of the PRB in November 1849 to an enthusiastic reception. WMR remarked that the work was “exceedingly clever” but “borders, nevertheless, on the ultra-peculiar, and a few allusions altogether unintelligible by such as are not personally acquainted with him will have to be omitted in printing it” (see Fredeman, <hi rend="i">The P.R.B. Journal</hi> 29).

Germ Text bibbing: continued or repeating Dutch C'naster, Shag, ... Mundungus: All are types of tobacco. Shag is a strong tobacco cut into fine shreds. Cavendish is tobacco softened and pressed into solid cakes. Mundungus is a foul-smelling tobacco. Anacreon: Sixth-century Greek poet noted for his jubilant songs of love and drinking. Cimabues: Cimabue (1251-1302), primitive Italian painter and mosaicist, an important figure for the PRB.
