               <head>Introduction</head>
               <p>This is the fourth of five parts of a satiric medley by
John Tupper, Alexander Tupper, and George I. F. Tupper. It is 
titled in general <title level="wrk">&#8220;<xref doc="a.jtupper004.raw">Papers of The M. S.
Society</xref>&#8221;</title>.  The first three parts were
published in <title level="per">
                     <hi rend="i">The Germ</hi>
                  </title> no. 3 and the other two
in no. 4. John Tupper, who wrote parts 1, 4, and 5, read 
all or part of it to a gathering of the PRB in November 1849 to
an enthusiastic reception. WMR remarked that the work was &#8220;<quote>exceedingly
clever</quote>&#8221; but &#8220;<quote>borders, nevertheless, on the ultra-peculiar, and a
few allusions altogether unintelligible by such as are not personally
acquainted with him will have to be omitted in printing it</quote>&#8221;
