Introduction

This is an important early study of DGR's works with original materials of
various kinds, including two facsimiles, as well as an Appendix
listing “The Artistic Record”, a catalogue of DGR's
pictorial work. The data in the Appendix has been inorporated into later scholarly works and thus has been superseded, but the critical commentaries remain an important document in DGR's reception history.
