Introduction

One of the more lavish volumes produced by Emily Faithfull and the Victoria Press, <hi rend="i">A Welcome</hi> appeared in March of 1963 “to commemorate the marriage of the Prince of Wales (later Edward VII.) and the Princess Alexandra of Denmark, to whom the book was dedicated” (Fredeman, “Emily”). Christina Rossetti, Anthony Trollope, Harriet Martineau, William Allingham, and Charles Kingsley were among the other contributors.
