Production History
DGR told Ernest Gambart on 26 April 1864 that this picture was “now nearly done” (see Fredeman, Correspondence, 64.55). The picture seems to have used two of the figures from DGR's 1855 La Belle Dame Sans Merci as a basis for this composition.
