The only extant example of this early work is the <xref doc="a.s56.rap">drawing</xref> owned by Mrs. Munro, passed down through her family after it was initially presented to Alexander Munro in 1853 by DGR, as the notation on the drawing indicates. In reproducing the drawing, Marillier dated it ca. 1848, without elaborating upon the reasons for doing so.</p> <p>DGR's plan for the <xref doc="a.29-1869.s222.raw">later work</xref> was to produce an oil painting and pair it with an accompanying ballad to fashion a double work.
