Note: Inscribed at lower center. Translates literally as “ the mariner forgets, passing through such ways”. The line inaccurately reproduces two lines (31-32) from Jacopo da Lentino's canzone, “Membrando ciò, che Amore” , which DGR translated as “At the end of his hope” in The Early Italian Poets , page 220.
