Production History

In a letter to Jane Morris on February 10, 1878, DGR referred to a watercolour version of Proserpine, with which the recipient (F.S. Ellis) was delighted. He also mentions a failed attempt to photograph the work before it was sent to the buyer, resulting in a proof that required retouching (Fredeman, Correspondence, 78.28). There is no known record of this reproduction.
