Introduction

DGR was proud of this design, and was especially pleased with the choice of white for the cover, as he told Alexander Macmillan in April 1865 when he was preparing to do illustrations and the binding design for his sister's <hi rend="i">Prince's Progress</hi> volume (see Fredeman, <hi rend="i">Correspondence</hi> , 65. 55 ).
