Around 13 April 1870, as final arrangements for the publication of DGR's 1870 (see were being made with F. S. Ellis, DGR proposed that he do the binding design for Swinburne's book (see Fredeman, , page 347 ). Ellis and Swinburne had just entered into discussions about publishing the volume, which indeed came about in January 1871, though not without some difficulties, since Ellis was shocked by some of the poems.
