Introduction

This is the first full-length portrait of Lucrezia Borgia by DGR, done almost a decade after painting the Borgia series. In this version, which was heavily overpainted to make the final version, Lucrezia is shown in a stiff pose, with brown hair rather than blonde. Along the base of the painting, DGR included a cartellino identifying Lucrezia as the wife of Alphonso, Duke of Bisceglia.
