Introduction

This watercolour miniature seems to be a piece of juvenile homage that DGR made for himself. He had it encased in glass and mounted on the inside cover of his copy of a 1709 edition of Shakespeare's poems. The watercolour is a copy of the famous Droeshout engraving that appears as the frontispiece to the first folio.

Production History

It is probably an early work, perhaps 1845.
