Introduction
The drawing was first exposed to public notice in its sale at Duke's in April 2012, where it was offered at auction with two other previously unknown drawings: Eighteenth Centry Ladies Meeting (1849) and Venus with Two Doves (1870). The three drawings were gifted by WMR in 1905 to Effie Ritchie (nee Stillman) (1871-1911), the daughter of Marie Spartali Stillman (1844-1927), who sat for several of DGR's pictures.
