The periodical was founded to supersede the Weekly Belle Assemblée. Edited by C. B. Wilson, the new magazine was a typically eclectic production featuring poems, stories, cultural essays, and translations. Elizabeth Youatt was the editor when DGR published “My Sister's Sleep” in the magazine in September 1848 (volume 29, pages 140-142).
