Introduction

London Daily News. London: Bradbury and Evans, 1846-1912.

The newspaper was founded by Charles Dickens on 21 January 1846. After seventeen numbers he turned the editorship over to John Foster, who headed the newspaper until 1870. In 1912 it merged with the Morning Leader.

The paper was founded to give a voice to Liberal views, and specifically to rival the Whig newspaper The Morning Chronicle.
