DGR

1992

Physical Description

Medium: Color photograph, not mounted
Dimensions: 25.5 cm x 26 cm
Other production information determined from the object: This painting was mistakenly considered to be two distinct fragments by Virginia Surtees. In her catalog of Rossetti's works, she lists two distinct oil studies for “Found”, 64M and 64Q. 64M is dated as c. 1859-61. 64Q is dated as “Probably 1854”. In fact, 64M and 64Q are painted on the same panel. The Carlisle Museum and Art Gallery, which owns the object, affirms this to be the case, and one could reach the same conclusion by noting that, in the Surtees catalog, 64M and 64Q share the same accession number, 125.1949.33. The current print is a late twentieth-century photograph of 64M/Q.
