Scholarly Commentary

Introduction

DGR's other illustration for his sister's book of poetry, The Prince's Progress and Other Poems (1866), carries a strong personal inflection, and the same is true of this woodcut for the title page, which quotes line 3 of the title poem, “The Prince's Progress”: “The long hours go and come and go”.

Production History

For full details see the commentary for the production history of the frontispiece. See also W. J. Linton's woodcut made from DGR's drawing for the titlepage..
