Introduction
In a letter of 15 May 1856 (see Fredeman, Correspondence, 56.37) DGR proposed to do this portrait in exchange for his aunt Charlotte's “Hist! Said Kate the Queen” . DGR's patron William Marshall wanted the latter, and the exchange was in fact made.
