Introduction

DGR sketched this drawing while waiting for William Allingham in the later's rooms at 1 Queen Square, Bloomsbury on June 9, 1854. It was drawn adjacent to a translation of a poem by Heine in a notebook belonging to Allingham, who published a reproduction of it many years later (in 1888) in his Flower Pieces and Other Poems .
