Dormouse surnamed Dwanging

Dante Gabriel Rossetti

General Description

Date: 1834 (circa)

Scholarly Commentary

We know this juvenile drawing from the reproduction given in Marillier, 212. (See also WMR, DGR. Family Letters 67 ). The dormouse is apparently so named by DGR because it lived under the floorboards among the joists or “dwangs”.
