Introduction

This subject for an unexecuted picture is described in a small notebook now in the collection of the British Library. If completed, it would have depicted a cavalier standing before the full-length portrait of a woman. Below this brief description, DGR also wrote, “a Foul Fool,” which suggests a possible title.
