Scholarly Commentary
Introduction
This image anticipates DGR's preoccupation with the figural representation of women's hair, particularly as it being combed out for dramatic display. See for example the drawings of Annie Miller, Fanny Cornforth, and Jane Morris. DGR's special fixation begins around 1860, and this particular scene is perhaps most dramaticaly presented in the Fitzwilliam Museum watercolour Morning Music .
