Scholarly Commentary

Introduction

This printed volume carries the first publication of DGR's translation of Bürger's famous ballad Lenore. WMR's introduction (below) gives an excellent introduction to the ballad and its English translations, as well as a careful analysis of DGR's translation.

Production History

The manuscript from which this edition was made was bought by the publisher, Mr. Gilbert I. Ellis, at a Sotheby's sale of November 26, 1899.
