Scholarly Commentary

Introduction

This is the second of two selections from Fazio degli Uberti's long didactic work in terza rime that DGR translated for The Early Italian Poets collection. This selection is, as DGR's heading indicates, from Book IV chapter 25, and the source text was the 1826 Milano edition edited by Vincenzo Monti (pages 355-358).

For further commentary see the editorial notes for DGR's translation of the other selection from the Dittamondo.

Textual History: Composition

DGR probably translated this work later than many of the other translations—perhaps late in the 1850s.

Printing History

The translation was first published in 1861 in The Early Italian Poets; it was reprinted in 1874 in Dante and his Circle.
