Introduction
Dante's sonnet, which is clearly post-exilic, was answered by a response sonnet from Cino da Pistoia. DGR's translation, wooden to a degree, is one of his least successful.
The source text for DGR's translation was Fraticelli's Opere Minori di Dante Alighieri (I. 129).

Probably an early translation, late 1840s.

The translation was first published in 1861 in The Early Italian Poets; it was reprinted in 1874 in Dante and his Circle.
