Biographical information on this late thirteenth-century poet is not forthcoming, though he seems to have been well known and regarded. DGR's translation follows the original closely. DGR's source text is either Poeti del Primo Secolo (vol. 2, 259) or Raccolta di Rime Antiche Toscane (vol. 3, 346).

Probably early; late 40s or early 50s.

The translation was first published in 1861 in The Early Italian Poets; it was reprinted in 1874 in Dante and his Circle.
